LINE YOTSUYA by LINE Corporation + Nomura Co. Ltd

LINE YOTSUYA is a new office project of LINE Corporation, which develops and drives the expansion of its IT services.

In this project, we aimed to design an office that embodies "LINE STYLE: WOW = No.1," which is LINE's way of working, and the company's "second stage of development," in which it challenges itself to succeed in new business areas. We also aimed to create a work environment that embraces the new normal created by COVID-19, which began when the project was already in progress and has now changed society in many ways.

To this end, we chose "flexibility" as our main theme for the project.

For example, we minimized the number of objects that have to be secured in place so that the office can quickly adapt to structural changes in the company, office relocations, and various social situations. Portable furniture, demountable partitions, and custom furniture with multifunctional modules are only some of the things we have planned in detail.

They provide uniformity in style while being able to change their function when necessary. For example, we used one piece of custom furniture to form the basic component of high tables, display stands, and trash can storage spaces.

Furthermore, simple wooden furniture—which can also serve as partitions—can be combined with their desk and stool units in different ways depending on how employees like to use them.

At the reception, we offer fun ways to entertain our guests such as by displaying our company's services on a counter and projecting promotional videos onto a glass partition.

The adjacent cafe has been designed in consistency with the rest of the office using the same furniture modules. Therefore, the cafe area can be used as a large space for events after removing the glass partitions.

We also designed the office to be a place where ideas are born, so that LINE can continue to take on new challenges. Specifically, we created a work environment that enables constant input and output of ideas by incorporating the following keywords in our design concept: movable (can freely move furniture and change layout), writable (can readily write down ideas on a wall or table), and discoverable (can discover new hints from someone else's ideas).

By including the concept of "change" in our project, we have designed an office that fosters the mindset to embrace challenge.
