It was a great honour and pleasure to have Mr. Nagai as our Founding Board Advisor for the first three years of the Sky Design Awards. It was with Mr. Nagai’s great leadership vision and willingness to believe in me and my vision that the awards has come this far. I am truly thankful for his shared vision and tremendous contribution to paving the way for the Sky Design Awards in Japan. As we thank Mr. Nagai our Founding Board Advisor for his guidance until now it is now time to pass the baton to the next advisor Mr. Charles Chau.

Charles Chau is a graduate of the University of Hong Kong in Philosophy and Art History with an MBA from London Business School. He was a consultant at McKinsey and later EVP/Managing Director of MTV Networks North Asia in his much earlier career. Charles turned full-time to his own art 15 years ago, working on several architectural conservation projects as lead manager and advisor as well as establishing his own painting practice and now is based in Canada.

The new Sky Design Awards Committee members will dedicate ourselves to further nurturing and developing the Sky Design Awards as well as collaborations and trade relationships between Japan and other countries. We look forward to continuing our relationship with you in 2022.

Message from Board Advisor - Tomohisa Nagai

In 2021, I will be retiring as the BOARD ADVISOR of the SKY DESIGN AWARDS after more than three years of service.

It has been very difficult to manage the event due to time, cost and language Barries, However, since we share the same goals and aspirations, we have managed to work together and come this far. Including the preparation period, we have spent about four years. At the same time, we felt that it was time to pass the baton to the next generation.

In 2020, the AWARDS will be held online, and in 2021, the NEW BLACK Award will be newly established, and from 2022, the Sky Design Bridge, a sourcebook of world class architects, designers, and materials suppliers will be newly established, making it a further upgraded DESIGN AWARDS.

The NEW BOARD ADVISOR will be Mr. Charles Chau, an artist living in CANADA. Although I will be leaving the SKY DESIGN AWARDS this year, I believe that this award has great potential and represents the new era of design awards.

We will have a new office in Tokyo next year, which will make our activities even more active, so please look forward to it. I would like to express my gratitude to everyone for their support and cooperation. Thank you very much. I hope that you will continue to understand the concept of the SKY DESIGN AWARDS, and I look forward to your continued support and cooperation.

Message from Board Advisor - Charles Chau

It’s my honour yet a great responsibility to carry the torch of Nagai-San Tomohisa Nagai as the only one Board Advisor (more like a Board Chairman though non-executive) to SDA. As you can all imagine how visionary it is and the loads of hard work by Nagai-San, the judging panels, other advisors, consultants, committee members and sponsors, together with Peggy-San, Peggy Lui and her team, put into making SDA already a noticeable and respectful international industry award in architecture, interiors and design.

Can’t imagine it was only three years old. The road ahead won’t be easy, but together we will continue to turn dream-like ideals - beauty, function and truth - into reality. At the end of the day, the heroes go to all the great architects, designers and their clients for your endless search and execution. The SDA is merely an occasion to celebrate your success. See you in Tokyo 2022.
