DAISHINKU CORP. HEADQUARTERS AND PLANT PROJECT by KOIZUMI LIGHTING TECHNOLOGY CORP. (Japan)
Project description
DAISHINKU CORP. is a leading Japanese company engaged in the manufacturing and sales of quartz devices, including quartz oscillators. This project aims to create a smart factory that integrates headquarters and plant functions on a site adjacent to the existing Central Laboratory. The exterior design is inspired the exterior design by stacked crystal chips. Five layered rectangular volumes of different sizes represent DAISHINKU's history of technological innovation and its future growth. The subtly ascending, randomly arranged sliced volumes represent the company's history of technological advancement and growth, resulting in a dynamic and memorable design. The shifting shadows and varying appearances created by the offsets between the layered volumes recall how crystal subtly deforms under pressure and temperature changes, yet retains a stable frequency. This effect realizes a space where science and design harmonize.
The specific frequency characteristics of a crystal-derived chip are determined by the interplay of its thickness and angle. The architectural design focuses on the thickness of these chips, creating the space by layering volumes of varying thicknesses. This design inspired by the stacked crystal chips not only extends
to the exterior but also permeates every corner of the interior space, thus visualizing the corporate identity. Each floor is organized around an atrium pierced through the center, with natural light from the skylight spreading across each layer. This not only enhances energy efficiency and openness but also
stimulates encounters and communication among workers on different floors.
The interior lighting is designed with a focus on the angles of the chips cut from crystal. The thickness of the processed chips is a key factor in determining the device's resonance frequency, while the angle is an element that affects the stability of that frequency. The most commonly employed 35.15°AT cut, as well as the 38°CT cut and 52°DT cut, is used to design interior line lighting based on these unique angles.
This line lighting creates an innovative lighting environment that embodies DAISHINKU's identity, as different angles intricately combine within the space.
In addition, changes in color temperature based on the circadian rhythm have been incorporated, enhancing intellectual productivity, and supporting the physiological rhythms of the workforce.
These designs are emblematic of DAISHINKU's dedication to technological innovation and growth, realizing a holistic and symbolic spatial experience that unites architecture, interior design, and lighting.
